Holy Week Rituals in Sorrento Peninsula

The Holy Week in Sorrento Peninsula is rich in suggestive events not to be missed.

In the enchanting location of the Mermaid Land, between the Good Thursday and the Good Friday, about 20 processions of hooded people organized by the local brotherhoods of the towns of the Sorrento Coast take place.
Among the most famous are the White and the Black Procession of Sorrento. The White Procession, organized by the Saint Monica Brotherhood, sets out at dawn on Good Friday going back over the itinerary of the Virgo looking for her Son sentenced to death.
The Black Procession, unique of its kind, for the atmosphere which it can create, is edited by the Brotherhood Death and Prayer: in the evening of the Good Friday it winds among the streets of the historical center of Sorrento recalling the run of the Death Christ accompanied by the Sorry Mother.
